How to fix it

  1. Remove Not Enough Crashes (notenoughcrashes) from your mods folder, as returning to the menu after a crash leaves Sodium in an invalid state and masks the real error.
  2. Check .minecraft/logs/latest.log (scroll up to the earliest error) or older files in .minecraft/crash-reports/ to find the first crash that happened before this one.
  3. Restart Minecraft completely and trigger the crash again without Not Enough Crashes installed to see which mod actually caused the initial failure.
  4. Ensure Sodium and Fabric API (if on Fabric) are updated to the latest versions for your exact Minecraft release.
