Launcher problemsHMCL AccessDeniedException (sun.nio.fs.WindowsException)
What the log looks like
java\.nio\.file\.AccessDeniedException:[^\r\n]+[\r\n]+\s+at (?:java\.base/)?sun\.nio\.fs\.WindowsException\.translateToIOException[\s\S]{1,1200}?at org\.jackhuang\.hmcl\.
How to fix it
- Find the line starting with 'java.nio.file.AccessDeniedException:' in your HMCL log to identify the exact file or folder path Windows blocked.
- If the blocked path is a hidden Windows system folder (such as F:\Config.Msi or System Volume Information), change your HMCL game directory from the drive root (e.g., F:\) to a dedicated subfolder (e.g., F:\Games\.minecraft).
- If you used symbolic links or directory junctions (mklink) for .hmcl, .minecraft, or libraries, check that the target drive is mounted and recreate any broken links.
- Check permissions on %AppData%\.hmcl and your HMCL folder: move HMCL out of C:\Program Files into a normal user folder, ensure no file has the same name as a required directory, and verify antivirus software is not locking the folder.
