Mod conflictsIris Shaders Crash in FullyBufferedMultiBufferSource (Null RenderLayer with ETF/EMF)
What the log looks like
java\.lang\.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "net\.minecraft\.class_1921\.method_23516\(\)" because "<local3>" is null
java\.lang\.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "net\.minecraft\.class_1921\.method_23033\(\)" because "<parameter1>" is null
How to fix it
- Update Entity Texture Features (ETF) and Entity Model Features (EMF) to their latest versions for your Minecraft release, as ETF 5.0 had a known null render layer bug with Iris.
- Update Iris Shaders and Sodium to the newest compatible releases for your Minecraft version (for example, Iris 1.6.17+ or 1.7+ on 1.20.1/1.20.2).
- If you use Xaero's Minimap alongside ETF/EMF and still crash when entities appear nearby, open Minimap Settings -> Entity Radar Settings and switch Entity Icon rendering to simple/vanilla icons or disable custom model rendering on radar.
- If the crash persists after updating, temporarily remove entity_texture_features and entity_model_features from your mods folder or disable custom entity resource packs (such as Fresh Animations) to confirm the conflict is resolved.
