Mod conflictsRoughly Enough Items Crash: Entry type minecraft:item doesn't exist!
What the log looks like
java\.lang\.NullPointerException: Entry type minecraft:item doesn't exist!
Entry type minecraft:item doesn't exist![\s\S]{0,120}me\.shedaniel\.rei\.impl\.common\.entry\.type\.EntryTypeDeferred\.getDefinition
How to fix it
- Update Roughly Enough Items (REI) and Architectury API to the latest build for your Minecraft version, as specific 1.20.x releases contained a bug when opening the config screen from the main menu.
- Before opening REI settings from Mod Menu/Catalogue or connecting to custom multiplayer servers like Hypixel, load into any singleplayer world once per game session so REI can initialize its item types.
- Avoid opening the REI configuration menu from the title screen; instead, open your inventory inside a world and click the REI wrench/config button directly.
- If the error repeats every tick inside a singleplayer world, check latest.log for recipe parsing errors and remove or update mods that disable vanilla recipe book packets or add malformed custom crafting recipes.
