How to fix it

  1. Open logs/latest.log and scroll further down below 'Getting tooltips' to find the final 'Caused by:' line, which identifies the actual mod that threw the underlying exception.
  2. Check that the mod identified in the bottom 'Caused by:' stack trace is built for your exact Minecraft version (such as not mixing a 1.18.2 mod into a 1.19 instance), and update or remove it.
  3. Update Fabric Loader (or Quilt Loader) and Roughly Enough Items to their latest versions, which fix multi-threaded classloading crashes with tooltip mods like Inspecio.
  4. If REI search is still broken or crashing, open REI's settings (or edit config/rei/config.json5) and disable Async Search or Tooltip Search as a workaround.
