Java version problemsjava.awt.AWTError: Assistive Technology not found: org.GNOME.Accessibility.AtkWrapper
What it looks like in the log
java.awt.AWTError: Assistive Technology not found: org.GNOME.Accessibility.AtkWrapper
How to fix it
- Pass `-Djavax.accessibility.assistive_technologies=" "` (keep the single space inside the quotes) in your Java command or launcher JVM arguments to bypass the accessibility wrapper for that session.
- To fix the issue permanently for your system's OpenJDK on Ubuntu/Debian, edit `/etc/java-8-openjdk/accessibility.properties` (replace `8` with your Java version, such as `17` or `21`) using `sudo`, place a `#` in front of `assistive_technologies=org.GNOME.Accessibility.AtkWrapper`, and save the file.
- Alternatively, switch from your Linux distribution's default OpenJDK package to Eclipse Temurin (Adoptium) or Azul Zulu, which do not enable AtkWrapper by default.
- If this crash happens while starting a dedicated Minecraft server on a headless Linux machine, add `nogui` to the end of your startup command (for example, `java -jar server.jar nogui`) so Java skips loading graphical components.
