How to fix it

  1. Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & Features) and uninstall your outdated Java 8 runtime.
  2. Download and install an up-to-date 64-bit Java runtime that includes JavaFX (required by HMCL), such as BellSoft Liberica Full JRE 17 or Liberica Full JRE 8u372+.
  3. Restart your computer or command prompt so Windows updates the default `java` executable in your system PATH.
  4. Launch HMCL again; if you still need older Java 8 for legacy Forge modpacks, install a modern Java 8 build alongside Java 17 and select it inside HMCL's game version settings rather than using it to run the launcher itself.
