How to fix it

  1. Update Iris Shaders (and Sodium) to the latest release for Minecraft 1.21 (Iris 1.7.3 or newer), where this shadow-pass vertex bug was patched.
  2. If you cannot update mods immediately, open Options -> Video Settings -> Shader Packs -> Shader Pack Settings and disable Entity Shadows (or Player Shadows) as a temporary workaround.
  3. If the crash prevents you from loading into the world or server, disable shaders from the main menu Video Settings before joining, then update Iris.
