Mod conflictsJEI / REI Crash or Error on Empty Recipe Slot (IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 0)
What the log looks like
java\.lang\.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 0[\r\n\s]+at (?:java\.base/)?java\.util\.Collections\$EmptyList\.get.*[\r\n\s]+at me\.shedaniel\.rei\..*setupDisplay
java\.lang\.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 0[\r\n\s]+at (?:java\.base/)?java\.util\.Collections\$EmptyList\.get.*[\r\n\s]+at mezz\.jei\..*(?:legacy)?SetRecipe
How to fix it
- If you use Roughly Enough Items (REI) and crash when opening your inventory, close the game and delete the config/roughlyenoughitems folder in your Minecraft directory to clear broken pinned or favorited recipes.
- Update Roughly Enough Items (REI) or Just Enough Items (JEI) to the latest release for your Minecraft version, as newer versions include safeguards for empty recipe lists.
- Search your latest.log just above the IndexOutOfBoundsException for 'Found a broken recipe' to see which mod owns the faulty recipe, then update that mod to a compatible version.
- If you use KubeJS, CraftTweaker, or custom datapacks to edit crafting or stonecutting recipes, check your recent changes for recipes that have an empty ingredient tag or missing result item.
