Minecraft Crash: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError (Mod or Java Version Mismatch)

What the log looks like

java\.lang\.NoSuchMethodError

How to fix it

  1. Find the `java.lang.NoSuchMethodError` line in your crash report: the text on that line shows the missing target method, while the very next `at ...` line below it identifies the mod that tried to call it.
  2. If the calling mod is an addon or compatibility bridge (such as an addon for Create, Sodium, or Applied Energistics 2), update both the addon and the main parent mod so their versions match.
  3. Check the calling mod's download page to verify which version of Forge, NeoForge, Fabric Loader, or Fabric API it requires, and update your mod loader or API mod to match.
  4. If the missing method begins with `java.` (for example `java.nio` or `java.util`), update the Java version in your launcher settings because the mod was compiled for a newer Java release than the one you are running.
  5. If no compatible update exists for the broken addon mod yet, temporarily remove that addon `.jar` from your `mods` folder or downgrade the main mod to an older build the addon supports.
