How to fix it

1. Update NotEnoughUpdates (NEU) to the latest release or pre-release for Minecraft 1.8.9 from its official Modrinth, GitHub, or Discord page, as SkyBlock changes constantly break older versions.
2. Identify which specific feature crashed by reading the first line under `java.lang.NullPointerException: Unexpected error` (for example, `MiningOverlay`, `PetInfoOverlay`, or `CalendarOverlay`).
3. If you can log in safely, run `/neu` in-game and disable the specific overlay that appears in your crash report.
4. If your game crashes immediately upon joining a specific SkyBlock island (like the Dwarven Mines), close Minecraft, open `.minecraft/config/notenoughupdates/configNew.json` in a text editor, set the offending overlay option (such as `dwarvenOverlay`) to `false`, and save the file.
