Reading the logjava.lang.NullPointerException: keyPressed event handler
What the log looks like
java\.lang\.NullPointerException: keyPressed event handler
Description: keyPressed event handler
How to fix it
- Open your crash report and check the very first `at ...` line right under `java.lang.NullPointerException: keyPressed event handler` to identify the crashing mod (for example, `me.shedaniel.rei` is Roughly Enough Items and `com.replaymod` is ReplayMod).
- Update the mod named on that top stack trace line—and any library it depends on, such as Architectury API—to the latest release for your Minecraft version.
- If the crash occurs while typing in JEI/REI or pressing the recipe/uses keybind (`R` or `U`), note which item or search term triggered it and update both your recipe viewer and the mod that adds that item.
- Open `Options -> Controls` in Minecraft and check whether multiple mods have actions bound to the exact key that caused the crash, then reassign conflicting hotkeys.
- If the crash happens inside a custom mod menu while OptiFine or OptiFabric is installed, temporarily remove OptiFine/OptiFabric to confirm whether its GUI patches broke the mod's screen.
