PerformanceSodium / Iris: Not Enough Space in Destination Buffer Crash
What it looks like in the log
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Not enough space in destination buffer (writeOffset + bytes > bufferSize)
How to fix it
- Update both Sodium and Iris to the latest standalone versions available for your Minecraft version, and remove any old custom-bundled `sodium-fabric-...+IRIS` JARs from your `mods` folder.
- If you are playing on an older 1.16.5 modpack and cannot update Sodium, open `Options -> Video Settings -> Advanced` and change **Chunk Renderer** from `Multidraw (GL 4.3)` to `Oneshot (GL 3.0)` to bypass the buggy buffer arena.
- If you are using a Forge port of older Sodium (such as Magnesium or Rubidium) and encounter the same trace, update to Embeddium or apply the same Chunk Renderer setting change.
- Lower your Render Distance by 2–4 chunks if the stuttering persists around massive block-updating farms (like large sugarcane, bamboo, or flying-machine farms).
