PerformanceSodium Crash: Tried to Mark Light Data as Ready for Unloaded Chunk
What it looks like in the log
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Tried to mark light data as ready for chunk [-11, 4] but it hasn't been loaded yet
How to fix it
- Update Sodium to the newest release available for your Minecraft version, as later versions fixed how out-of-order chunk light packets are handled.
- Update companion mods such as Iris, Sodium Extra, and Reese's Sodium Options at the same time so they match your updated Sodium version.
- If you are already on the latest Sodium build for an older Minecraft version (such as 1.18.2 or 1.19), remove client-side lighting mods like Phosphor from your mods folder, as they can alter light update timing.
- If the crash only occurs when joining servers on a different Minecraft version, update or temporarily remove protocol translation mods like ViaFabric and ViaBackwards, which frequently send chunk and light packets out of order during teleports.
