Reading the logUnable to load library 'flite' (Linux Narrator Error)
What the log looks like
java\.lang\.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Unable to load library 'flite':
com\.mojang\.text2speech\.Narrator\$InitializeException: Failed to load library flite
How to fix it
- If your game actually crashed, scroll to the very bottom of 'latest.log' or check the 'crash-reports' folder to find the real fatal crash—this 'flite' message is almost always a harmless red herring.
- To fix the narrator and stop this error from appearing on Ubuntu/Debian-based Linux systems, install the library by running: sudo apt install flite libflite1
- On Arch Linux or Manjaro, install the library by running: sudo pacman -S flite
- On Fedora, install the library by running: sudo dnf install flite
- If you use a Flatpak launcher (like Prism Launcher or Modrinth App) and still see crashes during startup, test launching the instance in a non-Flatpak package or recreate the instance to rule out broken runtime libraries.
