Launcher problemsHMCL FileSystemException: Operation Not Permitted on macOS or Linux
What the log looks like
java\.nio\.file\.FileSystemException:[\s\S]{1,300}?sun\.nio\.fs\.UnixException\.translateToIOException[\s\S]{1,800}?org\.jackhuang\.hmcl\.util\.io\.FileUtils
How to fix it
- Move the HMCL `.jar` file and your `.minecraft` folder out of macOS protected directories (`Downloads`, `Desktop`, or `Documents`) into a standard folder inside your user home directory, such as `~/Games/HMCL/`.
- If you are on macOS and want to keep HMCL in its current folder, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders (or Full Disk Access) and grant folder access permissions to `java` / `Terminal`.
- If HMCL still refuses to open on startup, enable hidden files (`Cmd + Shift + .` on macOS or `Ctrl + H` on Linux) in the HMCL folder and delete or rename `.hmcl.json` so the launcher can generate a fresh configuration file.
- On Linux, check your HMCL game directory path for accidental backslashes (`\`) and move `.minecraft` onto a native Linux filesystem (such as `ext4` or `btrfs`) instead of an NTFS partition.
