Iris Error: GLSL Source Pre-Processing Failed

What it looks like in the log

org.anarres.cpp.InternalException: Bad token [ https://github.com/<so>,0]:" "

How to fix it

  1. Open Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs in Minecraft and switch to a known Iris-compatible shaderpack (such as Complementary, BSL, or MakeUp - Ultra Fast).
  2. check your log for 'Failed to load the shaderpack "<name>"!' to identify the exact broken file in your .minecraft/shaderpacks folder and remove it.
  3. Update Iris (and Sodium) to the latest release available for your Minecraft version, as newer versions fix many JCPP preprocessor incompatibilities.
  4. If you downloaded the shaderpack from GitHub or a file host, re-download the official release .zip rather than saving individual source files or HTML pages, and place the unextracted .zip directly in shaderpacks.
