Corrupted filesIllegalStateException: Not a JSON Object (\u0000 Null Bytes in Config)
What it looks like in the log
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Not a JSON Object: "\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\
How to fix it
- Check the stack trace line immediately below com.google.gson.JsonElement.getAsJsonObject to identify which mod owns the broken file (for example, net.irisshaders.iris.config.IrisConfig.load points to Iris Shaders).
- Close Minecraft and open your instance's config folder (located inside .minecraft or your launcher's modpack profile directory).
- Delete the configuration files belonging to that mod—for Iris, delete iris.properties and any iris*.json files—so the mod can generate clean defaults on the next launch.
- If another mod is listed or the crash persists, check recently modified .json files in your config and instance folders with a text editor (such as Notepad++), delete any file that appears completely empty or filled with NUL characters, and restart the game.
