Sodium Crash: MissingPaletteEntryException in ChunkBuilderMeshingTask

What it looks like in the log

net.minecraft.world.level.chunk.MissingPaletteEntryException: Missing Palette entry for index 11.

How to fix it

  1. Update Sodium (along with Iris, if installed) to the newest version available for your Minecraft release so you pick up any fixes for ChunkBuilderMeshingTask thread safety.
  2. Open Options -> Video Settings -> Performance and set Chunk Update Threads to 1 to minimize background worker threads reading chunk sections concurrently.
  3. Lower your Render Distance in Video Settings (for example, to 10–12 chunks) when flying or exploring near heavy block-updating machines to reduce the rate of chunk meshing jobs.
  4. If you are on Sodium 0.8.12 or 0.8.13-beta and still crash every few minutes on multiplayer, roll back to an earlier stable Sodium version supported by your modpack or temporarily remove Sodium when visiting high-activity areas.
