Sodium Crash on Video Settings: Maximum Value Must Be Greater Than Minimum Value

What it looks like in the log

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: The maximum value must be greater than the minimum value`

How to fix it

  1. Update both your integrated (Intel or AMD) and dedicated (NVIDIA or AMD) graphics drivers using the installers directly from the chipmakers' websites rather than Windows Update.
  2. On Windows laptops with hybrid graphics, go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add the javaw.exe used by your Minecraft launcher, and set its GPU preference to High Performance instead of Let Windows decide.
  3. Restart your computer (using Restart rather than Shut Down) or toggle your laptop's GPU/MUX mode in your manufacturer control software to force Windows to refresh its display resolution list.
  4. If you are playing over a remote desktop or Linux virtual screen, configure your virtual display driver to report at least two standard monitor resolutions.
  5. As a temporary workaround to change graphics settings without crashing, close the game and edit options.txt and config/sodium-options.json directly in your Minecraft instance folder, and update Sodium to the newest release for your game version.
