Graphics and driversIris Crashes or Fails to Open Shader Screen (UpdateChecker is null)
What it looks like in the log
java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "net.irisshaders.iris.UpdateChecker.getMessage()" because the return value of "net.irisshaders.iris.Iris
How to fix it
- Open your Minecraft Video Settings (or launcher graphics options) and switch the graphics backend from Vulkan back to OpenGL.
- If you have a Vulkan rendering mod installed alongside Iris, remove either the Vulkan mod or Iris Shaders, as they cannot be used together.
- Restart Minecraft completely so Iris can initialize properly under OpenGL before opening the Shader Packs screen.
- Update Iris Shaders to the latest release for your Minecraft version so unsupported rendering backends are handled cleanly without throwing a NullPointerException.
